Amtico form to a new build in Harborne

The client visited the Mazon Flooring showroom based on a friends’ recommendation and was looking to get a luxury vinyl plank floor installed throughout the whole ground floor of the house. They weren’t quite sure whether to go for a herringbone parquet effect throughout, or just as a feature for the hallway, with matching planks in the main rooms.

After looking through the various options available from Amtico, Karndean and Moduleo, and taking boards home to put in the house, the decision was made to go for Amtico Form. Amtico Form offers the option of matching luxury vinyl in wood planks and parquet blocks, which can be can be laid in a herringbone pattern.

During the survey of the house, we identified some construction moisture in the slab, the action taken was to apply a damp proof membrane control the rate at which the moisture escapes, so as to not effect the finished floor covering.  Before doing this, we used our buffing machine to lightly abrade the top surface of the builders screed to remove any loose compound and weaknesses.

The next stage was to apply a smoothing compound throughout the whole ground floor, paying attention to and correcting some high points in the builders screed. Once the smoothing compound was dry, we smoothed it all down and then begun the installation.

We completed the kitchen, dining and lounge first, installing these with Amtico Form oiled oak planks. After that, we moved on to the much more labour intensive job of laying the hallway and WC using the parquet block version of the flooring laid in herringbone pattern with a single plank border.

The overall finished effect gives an opulent feel, with the matching planks bringing the whole ground floor together, and the hallway being the centrepiece.
